A New Endeavor
Sitting here with my newest writing partner, I’m hoping this new blog can be an inspiration for anyone trying to turn ideas into words on a page.
Since I have closed up the business for good, it's time to start focusing on my writing. The number one piece of advice I have heard about being a writer, get a blog and write. People want to be able to put a face to an author's name. So, I just finished The Golden Rules of Blogging (& when to break them) by Robin Houghton. It was a fantastic reference for someone like me who is trying to build a digital presence.
I'm still not sold on the idea that, even with three books out, people will want to listen to my advice on writing or trying to balance writing with the rest of my life, so I decided to just start blogging my day-to-day as I work through my fourth book. It is a departure from the Redleg in Space series and follows a pilot exploring the past the edge of known space as he looks for new habitable planets for humanity to settle.
Since taking care of a newborn and writing new material isn't enough to keep me busy, I decided to dive into the blogging world.
Although it would have been best to start the blog at the beginning of a new project, picking up in the middle will have to do. After everyone is home, fed dinner, bathed, and put to bed, it is time to spend a few hours on the new material. Our adventurer, Ruck, has gotten his salvaged ship in working order and is ready to head to the Moon to pick up his first exploration contract. If Scarlett has a colic-free night, I hope to finish about half a chapter. Although it isn't as much as I would like to write per day, every page moves me closer to my goal.
For anyone reading and trying to get their own story finished, here's a piece of advice that I found helpful. Try to write every day but don't try to dedicate more time than you have. Every page is a page closer to finishing.
Little girl is getting close to the end of her colic age, which means more sleep and more writing time. Pray for me.
Let me know what you think of the blog. Do you plan on keeping up with it?
